Owl’s Nest Recovery has been open for over 20 years. In that time we’ve witnessed countless numbers of people overcome their addictions and find long-term recovery. That’s why we believe addiction treatment is personal—and powerful. Our clients don’t just get sober—they learn how to live again. One of those people is Kitty, who walked through our doors in 2015 and never looked back.
Young, searching for answers, and surrounded by a culture of praying. Sound familiar? Kitty’s story began like so many others.
“My family owned bars and restaurants,” she said. “What I saw was people partying all the time and having a good life and not worrying about anything… So I took my first drink at 12. I smoked my first joint, did my first bit of cocaine at 13, and it was on.”
What followed was more than two decades of addiction, pain, and trying to act like she had it all together while everything was falling apart.
“I had two kids. I couldn’t give them anything. I couldn’t do anything without my parents or someone else doing it for me. I couldn’t wake up without taking a drink. I couldn’t get out of bed without Adderall or meth. I couldn’t go to sleep without something to bring me down.” Kitty was trapped in the relentless cycle of addiction.
By 36, Kitty’s life was ruled by her disease. She was paranoid, exhausted, and ready for something different. That’s when she found the Owl’s Nest.
“When I got to the Owl’s Nest, they told me there was a power greater than myself. And that is what I believed. It wasn’t what everybody else believed. I didn’t have to please people anymore. I had to do this for myself—and that struck me.”
It was more than just a detox. It was more than just staying sober. It was learning how to live again.
“I spent four months at the Owl’s Nest. It changed my life. And not only did I get sober, but I learned to live a life of sobriety.”
She found real friends. She found a purpose. And she discovered a sense of self she hadn’t known since before her first drink at 12.
“I learned to go out and get a job and be able to work and go home and do the next right thing.”
Recovery isn’t easy—but it’s worth it. Kitty’s life today is proof of that.
“My life in sobriety hasn’t been easy. It’s not always easy to take God’s will and to change. But now I have that gut feeling, and it screams at me today—and I listen to it.”
Every day, she wakes up with gratitude and intention.
“I can wake up every day and thank God, praying and meditating and just doing what the Owl’s Nest taught me. Without those tools, I would not be where I am today.”
